Developer Estimates

We are working on a confidential project as i cannot name it here ;) cause we got some NDA stuff related to it. Well i am leading some team here, we have to provide development estimates for particular features which is a common practice. I dont have a good idea how to estimate them correctly,but always try to do my best. Last time i saw around 200 hours for my feature estimated by our parent company. I have to send the actual one, i asked my dev to make his estimates well he is quite good. he shortens the time to approx 100 hrs. but some of our senior mangement still want justification on this estimates and called me up for interrogation. First i try to persuade him but when he is not gtting my point. I asked him that can i review it for 10 minutes. Later i just use my newly learned WBS(Work breakdown Structure) technique to make estimates and to my idea i have increased the time line by approx 2 days. and when we met again he is quite satisfied with this estimates. Lucky me as i got more time now to complete the same feature. I dont know is it me that fool him around or the estimates are really good.

Confusing Terms of CRM

One of my friend called me and was asking about some terms of CRM. Although not difficult but some what confusing for new comers. He is working on sugar CRM and have a problem in identifyng Lead, Opportunity, Account and Contact. Well the term lead is same as sales lead it is before the first contact with the person but he may be interested if contacted. Secondly Opportunity is a fair opportunity depending on the sales man, he had an open opportunity to make a cold opportunity or hot one. If it becomes cold then he missed the sales but if it is hot one. He is surely becoming a client or account for him. Account is basically the sales account it can either be a person or a corporate. If it is corporate you can create mulitple contacts for each account and a single one for person. Both contact and acount can be used for further sales and service jobs.

Software Development Cycle

1.Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free.
2.Product is tested. 20 bugs are found.
3.Programmer fixes 10 of the bugs and explains to the testing department that the other 10 aren't really bugs.
4.Testing department finds that five of the fixes didn't work and discovers 15 new bugs. 5.Repeat three times steps 3 and 4.
6.Due to marketing pressure and an extremely premature product announcement based on overly-optimistic programming schedule, the product is released.
7.Users find 137 new bugs.
8.Original programmer, having cashed his royalty check, is nowhere to be found.
9.Newly-assembled programming team fixes almost all of the 137 bugs, but introduce 456 new ones.
10.Original programmer sends underpaid testing department a postcard from Fiji. Entire testing department quits.
11.Company is bought in a hostile takeover by competitor using profits from their latest release, which had 783 bugs.
12.New CEO is brought in by board of directors. He hires a programmer to redo program from scratch.
13.Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free...
